Once again, we open the program with our master pianist Leif Ove Andsnes, playing carefully chosen pieces from his recording of Sibelius piano music, to all critics acclaim.
The Norwegian author Arne Garborg inspired many composers, and in his poems about the visionary cow maid Veslemøy – nick named “Haugtussa”, Grieg fell totally in love with his rich language and colours. In his song cyclus “Haugtussa”, he composed some of his most captivating melodies, picturing the young lovers in their first nervous meetings and the brutal ending. In between the songs, Eir Underhaug, read some of the poems in order to fill in more of the original story.
